Short description
De CED-Group in Rotterdam will develop literacy courses for the parents of school-age children. Parents get the chance to learn how to read and write based on the themes and subjects that are relevant for the education of their children. The municipality of Rotterdam is the project’s most important financer. The Reading & Writing Foundation also took the initiative of involving BP and Unilever, which have lent their support to this project.

Objectives

  • Teach schoolchildren’s parents to read and write;
  • Equip parents to support their children in school matters.

CED-Group, Unilever Nederland Holdings B.V., BP Nederland, ROC Zadkine College, the Municipality of Rotterdam’s Service for Urban Education (Dienst Stedelijk Onderwijs).

Mile stones

  • September 2005: First lessons started at De Hoeksteen primary school in Rotterdam. Click here to see a report from RTV Rijnmond (requires RealPlayer).
  • December 2006: Lessons started at some other schools. 
  • June 2006: End of first year of course.
