Project name
Illiteracy indicators

Short description
Everyone can encounter illiterate people in their environment, whether professionally or privately with family and friends. Illiterates are often very good at hiding their language deficiency. Illiteracy must, however, be recognised before people can be told about the possibilities of courses. The illiteracy indicator gives tips on how to recognize illiteracy and provides a free phone number 0800-0234444 that connects to the nearest regional training centre (ROC) so people can obtain information on courses.
Tailored illiteracy indicators have been prepared for some businesses. Special versions have also been prepared for various sectors. For example, bank employees, cleaners, teachers, companies and GPs.

Objectives

  • Increase awareness of illiteracy among general practitioners;
  • Reach illiterate people through GPs, who can refer them to a reading and writing course.

Partners
Dutch National Association of General Practitioners (Landelijke Huisarts Vereniging), Dutch College of General Practitioners, Rabobank, Dutch trade association for the cleaning industry (OSB Schoonmaakbranche), Nouveau, AIR FRANCE KLM, Uitgeverij Malmberg
