Willemien Free (1971) has worked at The Reading and Writing Foundation since February 2008. Before, she worked at the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science for over six years. During these years she worked on various topics, among which were the introduction of ICT in education, the policy on equality and diversity and the Ministries function of supervision and compliance.
In between the different jobs at the Ministry, she worked as a policy advisor at the Royal Netherlands Embassy in South Africa, Pretoria, at the department of Socio-economic Cooperation. In South Africa, Willemien also worked as a volunteer in Adult Basic Education and Training.
Willemien Free received her degree in Educational Sciences at the University of Groningen in 1997. Next to her studies she engaged in local politics and started a big band and a gipsy orchestra.
