Vision

Literacy is a basic requirement for a healthy and sustainable society. Literacy is a basic right for every individual.

Mission

The Reading and Writing Foundation works with the conviction that low literacy needs to be and can be solved structurally. Individuals, companies, authorities and social organizations have to be aware of the importance of literacy, and they will then apply this awareness in practice.

The mission of the foundation is to keep literacy on the social agenda and, in its role as hare, to motivate organisations in both public and private sectors to help tackle low literacy. This approach is both aimed at preventing and reducing low literacy. The activities of the foundation are always focused on acquiring a structural effect on the longer term.

Objectives

The Reading and Writing Foundation was founded to serve a single purpose: prevent and reduce low literacy.

  • to ensure that low literacy is recognised as an essential socio-economic problem throughout society, both nationally and internationally;
  • to help prevent and reduce low literacy by bringing together experts, interested individuals and organisations, from both the public and the private sectors, who will tackle the problem structurally, pragmatically and jointly.
  • To unite strengths by stimulating and, wherever necessary, creating a collaboration between organisations and relevant actor and literacy organisations, ranging from governmental institutions, social organisations to companies.
